How to Increase Attention Span in Kids

July 22, 2008

Are you a worried parent due to the inability of you kid to retain his concentration level for a long time? Does your child often turn tired and fidgety after sitting for just a few moments on the study table? Many parents are facing this problem in which their children become unable to study for a long time due to their dipping concentration levels. A very common reason for children’s short concentration span is a lack of motivation and focus. As a parent, you can play an important role in helping your child increase his attention span which in turn can help him to become a successful human being in life.

The best way to increase your child’s attention level is by providing him with the right kind of environment and motivation level. One has to become familiar with a child’s psychology to actually motivate him to study more. Setting up goals and targets for a child along with providing him with encouraging doses of motivation can help a great deal in increasing your child’s interest in studies. To create an optimum environment for your child, you should make a separate study room for him which is bright and enlivening and which is constructed according to the likes of the child so that he becomes attracted towards the whole concept of studying which in turn can help him to increase his concentration level. It is always better to encourage your child to sit on a straight chair than on a bed or a reclining sofa as the latter can drip your child’s attention level by making him sleepy and lazy. Moreover, setting up of proper schedules which involve sleeping, waking and eating time is important to ensure that your child remains fresh and active when required. The kind of food a child eats also plays an important part in deciding his attention levels. Instead of giving your child heavy meals which can make him lethargic and sleepy, one should provide him with light but nutritious meals to take care of his physical as well as intellectual health.

As a parent, you should also ensure that a child remains organized and disciplined in his approach as that would help him in increasing his concentration level. In addition, one should strictly ensure that external disturbances like TV and music are kept away from the child during his study hours. Some simple and basic methods can actually help a lot in increasing your child’s attention levels which would in turn bear great fruits in future.
