How to have healthy holidays

December 27, 2008

Very often, you tend to abandon your good sense of eating while enjoying your vacation holidays. You indulge in poor food choices and this makes your diet going for a toss. Always keep in mind that t is very much important sticking to a good food plan so that you can enjoy your holidays in a healthy way without getting affected by any ailment. Here are some healthy eating tips that will ensure you to have healthy holidays.

Mind it that requesting a low-fat or vegetarian meal on your flight is no biggie. But if you are driving to your destination, don’t depend upon those roadside dhabas. Instead carry some healthy foodstuffs with you like bananas, chikus and oranges along with low-fat and energy bar namkeens and biscuits. If you have to eat out, make sure you eat only when you are really hungry, don’t fill up your stomach simply because it’s free (if you are on a business trip). Very often while traveling; you indulge into overeating at one meal.

Mind it that if you have overstuffed your stomach at one meal, scales back on the next. For increasing your metabolism rate, take a walk around a hotel or swim in the pool. This will help in digesting your food. Try and find restaurants that can work with your needs. Like they should be able to broil food instead of frying or use low fat-cheese or non-fat milk.

Try to fit in six small meals or snacks as your body requires fuel every 4-5 hours. Avoid appetizers altogether or choose appetizers instead of entrees. But always keep in mind that you do not skip your breakfast. Avoid eating large meals at night. Avoid eating butter, margarine and oil at your dinner table. Choose fish and poultry.
