How to guard yourself against seasonal affective disorder

July 17, 2008

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that appears at the same time each year. With SAD, a person has symptoms of acute depression and unexpected fatigue. With SAD, depression is triggered by the brain’s response to decreased daylight exposure, a weather situation that is seen mostly during the monsoon.

It’s very essential to guard yourself from SAD, in order to carry out your daily activities enthusiastically and cheerfully. Maintaining a calm serene posture during the periods of SAD moments is pretty significant for healthy living, otherwise a person starts showing several changes from the way he or she reacts or feels normally. So, here are some of the ways that can help you to fight against seasonal affective disorder and cheer yourself up.

A balanced diet plays an important role in meeting your entire body requirement. However, if you still feel somewhat low in your spirits, then reason might be low intake of magnesium content in your body. Mind it; body requires magnesium for more than 300 biochemical reactions. So, it’s very important that you take proper nutritious diet full of magnesium content. It has been found that the person who suffers from magnesium deficiency requires more oxygen for carrying out everyday physical activities, which makes him or her feel low and stressed out. For filling magnesium requirements you can feed yourself with foodstuff like almonds, cashes etc.

Make sure you ditch alcohol. This is because alcohol interferes greatly in providing you healthy and restful sleep. Remember cutting down your alcohol before hitting your bed can ensure you a fully charged body for the next morning. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout your day. Even slightest dehydration can make you feel tired and low. Having water is all you need after a heavy workout session when your body starts craving for fluids.
