July 28, 2008

Stretch marks can greatly affect one’s living style as such marks act as a blot on one’s beauty which in turn restricts us from wearing clothes of one’s choice. They force a person to wear only those clothes which can effectively hide the ugly marks. Stretch marks are fine lines and marks on the skin and are caused due to overstretching of skin. Pregnant women and obese people are most likely to get affected by this problem and such marks are generally found in stomach region, breasts, legs and upper arms. The major fear that is associated with such marks is the difficulty in getting rid of them. By following certain natural methods, one can lighten the marks and can also prevent them from occurring on one’s body.

The best way to prevent stretch marks is by drinking plenty of water to keep one’s body hydrated. This in turn helps in increasing the elasticity of the skin thereby preventing the occurrence of stretch marks. This simple remedy should be kept in mind by pregnant women as they are most likely to get stretch marks post pregnancy. In addition, applying rich moisturizing cream on abdomen, thighs and breasts can be beneficial in saturating the skin with moisture. The next remedy involves the basic and simple rule of controlling weight gain through consumption of a well-balanced nutritious diet. Exercising can help in keeping one’s weight in control along with helping in the toning of body which is essential for the prevention of stretch marks.

It has been found that massage can be helpful in the treatment of stretch marks as massaging helps in the proper circulation of blood thereby helping in the reduction of marks. If the marks on the body are a result of pregnancy, one can treat them by massaging a home made paste which is made by mixing ½ tsp of aloe, ½ tsp of papaya pulp, 1 tsp rose water, 1 tsp sandalwood powder, 10 drops of almond oil and 2 drops of lavender oil. Apply 2 tsp of milk cream in this and mix the mixture well to make a paste which should be applied on the affected area to reduce and lighten the stretch marks. By following certain natural preventive and healing methods, one can ensure the health and glow of one’s skin.
