How to get rid of Pink Eye

July 12, 2008

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is an eye infection in which there is redness and a swelling of the conjunctiva. Pink eye is accompanied by red, swollen eyelids along with an itching or a burning sensation. It is generally caused by viral and bacterial infection and thus, it is a contagious disease which can spread quickly. Hence, along with curing the person suffering from pink eye, it is also important to take extra care and protection so as to prevent the infection from spreading.

Since pink eye can be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens or environmental irritants, it becomes essential for the individual to figure out the cause of his infection to finally get rid of it. If one is suffering from conjunctivitis caused by a bacterial infection, a warm, wet washcloth applied on the eyes can prove to be very beneficial. One should make it a point to wash one’s hands and eyes continuously so as to prevent further infections. It is advisable not to wear contact lenses during the condition of pink eye as it can irritate one’s eye tissues.

If one has got the problem of pink eye due to allergens or environmental irritants, then one should try staying away from them. A cold and a moist washcloth works best as an allergic conjunctive treatment. Moreover, this can be accompanied with some counter decongestant eye drops to attain maximum benefit. In addition, one should make it a point to wash one’s eyes with cold water after coming from outside as this would help to eliminate certain contaminants from one’s eyes. If your condition of pink eye is due to a viral infection, then one should take the doctor’s advice as this kind of problem can be associated with an infection of the cornea.

Pink eye is an eye condition which can be treated through care and precautions. Most importantly, it is essential to prevent it from spreading as pink eye infection can be a contagious infection.
