How to Get Rid of Panic Attacks

December 29, 2008

As the name suggests, panic attacks are ones in which a person suddenly freaks out due to a hysterical state of mind. It is one of the most frightening experiences and is usually characterized by shaking of legs, sweating of palms and hands, increasing heart rate and a general ‘fight or flight’ response. Given below are some ways by which you can prevent or at least effectively get over these frightening panic attacks.

First of all, one needs to make a healthy change in one’s lifestyle which not only includes physical changes but also psychological and emotional ones. After all, a panic attack has its roots in daily stress, anxiety, tension and in the thinking of a person. After all, it’s all in the state of mind. When stress gets accumulated over a period of time, or if a fear of a thing grips your mind, you might end up suffering from panic attacks. Thus, the best way to deal with them is to take care of its root cause.

Whenever you feel panicky, anxious or disoriented, you must try to calm and relax your mind. Deep breathing, meditation and yoga are some extremely useful ways of relaxing yourself. Most importantly, do not think about stress or have the fear of stress and panic attacks. This is because the fear of having a panic attack itself can trigger the attacks. Thus, be composed, relaxed and positive. Similarly, adopt a healthy mode of living which includes healthy diet, exercise and healthy living on the whole. You must avoid stimulants and drugs that can trigger this attack.

Also, you must watch out the signals of your body. If you think the symptoms of panic attack are starting to occur, you must relax yourself, cool down, divert your attention or simply call for help so as to prevent panic attacks from becoming severe. If the problem of panic attacks becomes recurrent and does not get solved despite various ways, then you must consult a doctor to prevent these attacks from disrupting your normal living.
