How To Get Rid Of Dry Skin

February 18, 2009

Are you a victim of dry, scaly and lifeless skin? Many people suffer from dry skin and it is a condition in which the skin lacks moisture. There are various factors that lead to dry skin including dietary flaws and skin ailments like psoriasis and eczema. Given below are some ways by which you can get rid of dry skin.

Before beginning the treatment and best prevention measures for dry skin, you must remember that there is no magical wand which will free you of dry skin in few minutes. You need patience. First of all, try finding the root causes of your dry skin, if possible. Usually unhealthy diet, smoking, skin ailments, environmental conditions, and side-effects of medications are some of the causes. Being aware of the causes makes one’s life easier as it helps in easy elimination of the problem.

Few daily skin care techniques can help you naturally get rid of dry skin. Daily moisturize your skin to keep it soft and supple. It is not necessary that moisturizer should be applied only once. If you feel your skin is getting dry, you can re-apply the layer of moisturizer, a good quality one, to ensure your skin is devoid of unwanted dryness. Refrain from using soap as that saps moisture from skin. Also, keep your skin hydrated naturally through intake of adequate water.

Along with external skin care, you need to treat the problem of dry skin via intake of a well balanced and a nutritious diet. This is because inadequate nutritional supply to the body can lead to dry skin ailments. Avoid junk food and increase intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Other methods of getting rid of dry skin include refraining from the unhealthy habit of smoking, preventing one from harmful effects of extreme weather conditions, and avoiding use of steam baths.
