How to get rid of Bad Breath

July 24, 2008

Bad breath is a problem which can distance you from your near and dear ones as no one likes the company of those people who have a foul or a bad breath. People with bad breath might have to face embarrassment which in turn can hamper their confidence and self-esteem. It is thus necessary to get rid of this problem as soon as possible so that you can attract people with your good and fresh breath.

Bad breath is the common name for the medical condition known as halitosis which can be caused due to bad dental hygiene, tooth decay, gum disease, throat infection and also due to the growth of bacteria in one’s mouth. Sometimes food items like garlic, onions, cheese and soda can also contribute to the foulness in one’s breath. However, the primary reason is found to be poor oral hygiene which leads to bad breath because when one leaves food particles in the mouth, they rot and start to smell. Thus, the first basic way of getting rid of this embarrassing problem is by practicing good personal hygiene which involves brushing of teeth at least twice a day along with flossing once a day. Brushing and cleaning of tongue is also essential as bacteria can grow there leading to the formation of bad breath. Moreover, washing of tongue with baking soda dissolved in warm water helps in reducing the acidity in the mouth which in turn prevents the growth of bacteria.

Herbs like coriander, parsley, rosemary and cardamom seeds act as natural mouth fresheners. Rinsing of mouth before sleeping with a glass of water with the addition of lemon juice can help in the prevention of foul breath. Drinking of plenty of water and avoiding food items which cause bad smell can all effectively help in the prevention of foul smell. Moreover, one should make it a point to go in for regular dental checkups to remove the possibility of some other dental infection which might be leading to bad smell.
