How to Deal with Rebellious Teens
When your child grows into a teen, there are chances that he becomes rebellious and bosses around with his own set of ideals. Teenage is a time of transition and this stage of life has its own set of ups and downs. With minds and opinions of their own and some financial independence, your teen tends to become rebellious and disobedient. As a parent, how do you deal with such a child as scolding and getting angry is not a viable option. Given below are some tips which can help you out in effective dealing with a rebellious teen.
An ideal family is one where there is mutual respect and harmony. When a child becomes a teen, there are biological, physical and psychological changes which accompany him. This is a fragile stage of their life as one wrong step can ruin their life. However, as a parent, you feel helpless when your teen turns out to have a rebellious attitude and who simply refuses to follow your advice and ideals. Scolding or getting aggressive wont help. You simply have to change your family dynamics. Try to communicate with your teen rather than imposing a dominating influence on him. After all, a rebellious teen is very difficult to handle and it is only love, care and patience that can help you. You cannot think of subduing aggression with aggression. Also, you should try to find out the reason behind your child’s rebellious nature and that can be done only by making your teen comfortable enough so that he opens up to you.
Provide your teen with a space and freedom of his own but not complete freedom as that can lead him astray. A certain amount of control is essential but that control need not be physical as that would only further increase the rebellion of your child. Instead, have some firm ideologies which need to be patiently communicated and explained to the child. Listen to your child’s concern as neglecting your teen can also be a major reason for his rebellion nature. Respect him, love him, communicate with him and become his friend to effectively parent a rebellious teen.
