How to Deal with Loneliness

May 29, 2009

lonlyNo one wants to be alone as when we are alone, we get a feeling of being unwanted and having no substantial identity in the world. Having someone to share our joys, sorrows and feelings is a boon but there are many times when we are left alone and thus it becomes necessary to know the ways to deal with loneliness.

When loneliness enters people’s life, it has the potential to lead to various psychological problems of depression and stress. Here are some simple ways by which you can overcome the feeling of loneliness and learn to effectively deal with it.

First of all, when lonely, you need to accept the fact that you are lonely and then try to deal with this feeling. Most of us refuse to accept loneliness and run away from it. However, loneliness is not an ailment and if you accept and realize it and its cause, you can learn to live with it or effectively overcome it.

When you are feeling lonely and depressed, you must try to seek a purpose of your life. Explore your talent and your hidden desires and your goal of life. Work towards achieving your life’s goal and you’ll no longer feel lonely as you’ll have your desires and goals with you.

A lonely person is most vulnerable to negative thoughts. However, you must guard yourself against such thoughts. Keep yourself busy and also meditate to connect with higher positive energies of life.

Walking, exercising, and connecting with nature too can lighten your mood. Reconnect with the healing powers of nature to feel the difference.

Last but not the least, become your own best friend. Read books, do things which you like and do something for yourself, for both your mind and body. Start loving your company and you’ll never feel lonely, sad or depressed.
