How to deal with Depression during Pregnancy
The joy of becoming a mother is invaluable for any woman. However, this joy and happiness can be overshadowed by periods of depression as it has been found that many women face the problem of mood swings and depression during her pregnancy period. The increase of hormone level in a woman’s body along with an increase in stress and strain leads to the problem of mood swings during pregnancy. However, one must take adequate efforts to combat depression as depression during pregnancy can lead to a compromising of the health of the mother and the child.
The two main female hormones- estrogen and progesterone cause mood swings during pregnancy. This is not a disease but a normal problem which can be treated through extra love, care and protection. It has been found that exercising helps a lot in reducing the episodes of mood swings. In addition, meditation and yoga can be a boon for pregnant women as they help in relaxing the mind and body of a person. Pampering yourself during this period can be helpful and one can achieve this by getting a body massage done along with other methods which include going out for a party, spending time with near and dear ones and indulging in the process of self-care.
It has been found that reading holy books and scriptures not only instills positive values in he unborn child, but also helps in reducing the stress and strain of the pregnant mother. Such books encourage positive and optimistic thinking thereby helping women to uplift their feelings and emotions. However, if the mood swings of anxiety, anger and sadness continue, one should visit the doctor as no chance should be taken in such a delicate and a beautiful phase of life. There are antidepressant medicines available which should be consumed only after the advice of the doctor. The key mantra should be to live stress and tension free to experience the joy of motherhood.
