How to deal with altitude sickness

October 29, 2008

Are planning to travel to an altitude place? Traveling to an altitude destination certainly can be adventurous and thrilling but do you know that it can give rise to the problem of altitude sickness either in half-a-way or even in the start of your journey. If you too find it hard to deal with altitude sickness, just read out the following written ways for dealing the same.

The moment you notice the first sign of altitude sickness, stop your ascent there and then. stay at the altitude you have reached so far and wait there for few minutes to check whether the symptoms vanishes away after few minutes or still persists and affects you. Remember that this is known as ‘acclimatization’. In this, your body gets used to decreased air pressure conditions after a while, so long as you don’t climb too high too fast.

If the attempts to acclimatization fail, head for a lower ground. Remember that becoming acclimatized or heading back down are the only two safe ways to deal with altitude sickness to cure it completely and fully.

You can make use of medications too in order to get relief from painful symptoms related with altitude sickness. Some of the medications are very effective at high altitudes. So get a list of medicines prescribed from your healthcare expert so that you can deal with altitude sickness. Administer prescription drugs only as directed. Some drugs can be used in the days leading up to an ascent to prevent the onset of symptoms, while other can be used to treat more serious cases. Either way, use caution as a precautionary measure.

If you suffer from any serious symptoms, or if your mild symptoms do not abate even when you reach ground, make sure to seek an immediate medical attention.
