How to Deal with a Rude Person

April 24, 2009

rudeYou might be sweet and loving by nature, but the person you are dealing with might not be of the same nature. Every person is different with a different personality and nature.

In your life you have to deal with people of varied characters and there are times when you might just have to deal with an extremely rude person, be it your teacher, your boss, or your colleague amongst others. How will you react and deal with such a person?

Well, dealing with rude people is not easy. But you need to keep your calm and cool and not succumb to your anger. Patience is the key. If a person is rude to you, you need not reciprocate the same behavior.

Instead, why not try something different, something more moral or to say it in growing popular language, something like ‘Gandhigiri’.

That is to say, if a person behaves rudely with you, you should maintain your calm and instead be polite with that person. Be kind and surprisingly, you will notice a change in the other person’s behavior.

While there are few people who are generally rude, there are many whose rudeness has some underlying emotional or psychological reason. Thus, you need to be compassionate and kind with such people.

Also, if the rudeness of the person crosses limits, then it is not a bad idea to be direct and tell the person that he is crossing his limits. After all, it is not necessary that if your boss is rude, you essentially need to get yourself insulted and bullied.

Instead, be straight and let the other person know about it. However, you should not yourself become rude.

You need to be mature, sensible, patient, calm as well as sometimes compassionate with your rude counterpart. Sounds tough, but in reality it’s not that tough a task. Thus, follow the above given tips to effectively deal with a rude person.
