How to Deal with a Bee Sting

February 26, 2009

If you live in near proximity to a bee hive, then there are chances of your getting a bee sting, especially if you disturb them. Being aware of the first aid treatments of bee sting is helpful for being prepared for an accidental bee sting.

Getting stung by a bee is a painful experience and thus one should follow the given steps to effectively deal with the sting and get rid of it in a fast and safe manner.

Different people react differently to bee stings. For some people, it is like a localized pain of the affected area which pains, becomes inflamed and then itchy and dry. There are also others for whom a bee sting becomes a nightmarish experience as bee stings can lead to allergic reactions which can also be fatal in extreme cases. Here are some steps you must take after getting stung by a bee so that you can effectively deal with it.

After getting stung by a bee, you need to first immediately remove the stinger so as to prevent the severity of the sting. This is because bee’s sting usually takes about 2 to 3 minutes for complete release of venom in the body.

Removing it immediately can help reduce the severity. After you have removed the sting, you need to wash the area with water and soap so as to clean it and then apply ice over it. This helps in reducing inflammation.

While the above steps need to be taken to effectively deal with a bee sting, there are some people who get allergic reactions. It is thus necessary to check for symptoms like excessive swelling of the stung area or difficulty in breathing. If any of these symptoms are seen, the person should immediately be taken to a doctor to prevent aggravation of allergic reaction.
