How to Childproof your House

July 16, 2008

With the coming of the news of a new life, the whole house gets into the process of childproofing the home to protect the child from any sign of danger. Since a young infant and a toddler is curious and adventurous by nature, it becomes essential to childproof one’s house to prevent the child from unexpected accidents. One doesn’t need to hire a professional for the purpose of childproofing a house as simple and basic care is enough to make your house child-friendly and secure.

The first and foremost requirement to childproof your home is by keeping sharp things like knives and blades away from the reach of your child. Moreover, furniture should be placed in such a way that its corner and edges do not pose any harm to the child. Since a child always tries to walk and run as soon as possible, it is always advisable to avoid furniture with sharp edges to reduce the risks of child accidents.

One should always have safety gates and grills in one’s house so as to prevent the child from falling down or from entering into unknown territories. Grills on the windows are also necessary to prevent the child from falling down. In addition, one should always use door knobs and locks to prevent the access of the child to harmful and dangerous areas. One should always keep inflammable things like candles, match boxes and others away from the sight of children to avoid their curiosity. Children usually have the habit of putting everything they find in their mouth. Thus, one should ensure to keep one’s house neat and disinfectant and should always keep medicines out of the children’s reach so as to pre vent any undesirable accident.

Parents should also ensure to childproof the bathroom by never keeping bucket full of water so as to prevent the undesirable episodes of drowning. Moreover, it is a good and a safe idea to put locks on toilet seats to protect your child. Childproofing a house is the first and foremost requirement to ensure the safe and happy growing up of your child.
