How to buy and keep mushrooms
Confused about buying mushrooms? Do you find it hard to keep them? Then read on this.
When you going out for buying mushroom, make sure you pick up the ones which are closed. Don’t go for open and flat mushrooms. It is important that you only purchase that amount of mushrooms which is needed. Don’t over stock them for future use. Check out the expiry date of mushrooms before buying it. Don’t think of buying mushrooms which display no expiry date on their package.
After you bring them home, it is very important that you remove the mushrooms from their storage packing. These packets are made up of plastic that may decay your mushrooms, thus leaving them useless at the end.
Brown paper bags are much better than normal plastic bags for storing mushrooms, as these bags do not lead to moisture accumulation. But Even if you intend to store mushrooms in plastic bag, properly wrap them into a paper towel before putting them inside a bag.
Low temperatures keep the mushrooms in fresh state. So it would be wise if you adjust your refrigerator’s temperature to meet the mushrooms requirement. Try to Keep it between 30 to 40 degrees F. also, make sure that you place your mushroom bag in a place which offers little light and they can remain undisturbed.
For preparing a mushroom recipe, make sure you took out only the required amount from the bag. Leave the rest mushrooms in bag and place back the bag again in same place to maintain the left mushrooms for longer period. If you carefully follow the above steps in storing mushrooms, then you can keep them fresh for future use. Otherwise they may get decayed. It is also important that you do not wash mushrooms before storing them. Remember, washing mushroom before storing encourage mould growth.
