How to Become a Good Listener
Are you a good listener or do you just speak out your thoughts and views without listening to others? Well, if you fall in the latter category, then you must develop the art of listening as it is extremely important for you to be a good listener for becoming a good communicator. In addition, good listening skills are helpful in both your professional as well as personal life.
A person who is a good listener is helpful in analyzing and solving other person’s problems and his own too. After all, there are very few people who take out time to carefully listen to other person’s problems.
Also, how many times have you sincerely listened to other person’s point of view with an open mind? Most of us always impose our point of view on others thinking ourselves to be always right. However, to be a good communicator and a good human being, you need to develop the art of listening.
To begin with, you must understand that listening is not equivalent to hearing. We might just hear a thing and forget about it. But listening is an art in which you not only hear a person out, but also try to understand his point of view, the importance and significance of his thoughts and if required, you contemplate on the other person’s problems and try to solve them from a neutral approach.
To be a good listener, you need to shed your authoritative personality for a while and think about an issue from other person’s perspective. Also, concentrate on what the other person is talking and keep your mind away from other worldly distractions.
To become a good listener, you must give the other person proper space and time to talk. Don’t interrupt him with your own views. Instead, you must become a silent yet an observant listener.
Also, you must be open to suggestions. In addition, your body language too is important. Have a good eye to eye contact so that the other person feels that you are paying full attention to his talking.
Thus, follow the above given tips to become a good listener.
