February 7, 2009

You must have seen many girls and boys using mouthwash for a fresh and refreshing breath. It is not only a social necessity but also a health related one. After all, mouthwashes not only prevent bad breath, but also play a vital role in the prevention of bacteria and plague which can hamper your oral health and hygiene.

While there is no denying the fact that the markets are flooded with plethora of mouthwashes of different kinds, you can now also make mouthwashes at home. Read below and find out how you can self-create the secret of your fresh breath, rather than buying it from markets.

Since mouthwashes play a vital role in providing you with fresh breath and disease free gums and teeth, you should be careful in its purchase and preparation. This is because there are certain mouthwashes available in markets which might not suit you and can lead to various problems ranging from altered taste to even mouth ulcers. Thus, extra care is needed. The healthiest and safest way is to prepare mouthwash at home. Unlike popular belief, it is not time-consuming or a tedious task.

You can make various kinds of mouthwashes at home: lemon, tea tree, rosemary, mint, and baking soda mouthwash. Let’s see how you can make a lemon mouthwash at home. Take a clean bowl and mix 1 cup of mineral water with ½ cup of plain soda drink, 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel, 4 drops of vegetable glycerin, and about 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Shake it well and use it as a mouthwash.

Similarly, there are ways by which you can make other kinds of mouthwashes at home for fresh breath and proper oral health.

Along with ensuring oral health via homemade mouthwashes, you can naturally freshen up your breath by chewing fresh parsley and even few fennel seeds.
