November 13, 2008

Tonsillitis is a problem which involves inflammation of the tonsils which in turn leads to sore throat, fever, headaches, difficulty in swallowing and general weakness. Tonsillitis can be really painful and people who have a history of this ailment should be extremely careful during chilly weathers. Given below are some home remedies which would help in the natural prevention and cure of tonsillitis.

If you have acute tonsillitis, then lime can prove extremely beneficial for you. Take a fresh lime, squeeze it in a glass of warm water, add four teaspoons of honey and also a quarter teaspoon of common salt. Sip this drink for a healing effect. You can also treat tonsillitis with the help of fenugreek seeds. You should take two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and simmer it for half an hour in a liter of water. Allow it to cool and then use this as an effective gargle for getting relief from chronic cough and throat pain associated with tonsillitis. Similarly, milk and vegetable juices can be used to naturally treat this ailment. For beneficial results, you should take a glass of pure boiled milk mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder and pepper powder. Take this at night. Also, juices of various vegetables like carrot, beet and cucumber can be taken individually and even in combination.  You should drink lots and lots of liquids as it is important to stay hydrated. You can try hot teas with honey and clear soups. Don’t drink acid and frizzy drinks. Also, avoid spicy food as that might irritate your throat. Moreover, sour substances like curds, buttermilk, and fried foods should also be avoided. You should try to give rest to your throat and thus speak less to avoid throat irritation and pain.

Follow these natural home remedies to get rid of tonsillitis.
