May 13, 2009

sprainsYou must have heard of people getting their neck, wrist, or ankles sprained. Sprain is a common injury to the ligaments which is a result of excessive stretching or tearing of muscles. Sprains can be extremely painful and they restrict the movement of the body part that is strained. Given below are some natural home remedies that can help ease pain of sprains and aid in their fast healing.

Sprains can result in swelling of the affected part. As a necessary self care measure, you must take adequate rest and do not strain the affected body part to avoid further complications. If you sprain your ankle, neck or any other part, then you must initially apply ice on the affected region to avoid swelling and inflammation. Elevating the injured part also helps in reducing swelling.

You must strictly reduce the movement of the joint affected. As a safety meaure, you can use a bandage to keep the joint safe and stable. There are also certain elastic tapes and bandages made especially for the treatment of sprains.

To ease the pain of sprains, you can use a pain relief spray or even consume a pain killer if the pain is too much to bear. Applying warm mustard oil on the affected area also helps in alleviating the pain associated with sprains. Applying pineapple extract also helps.

Since turmeric is seen as a natural healer, it has been found that drinking a glass of milk with little turmeric powder in it can help in speeding the recovery process. Applying a paste of lime leaves and butter has also been found to provide relief from sprains.

Thus, follow the above given tips to effectively get rid of sprains the natural way. However, if you feel your sprain is giving you unbearable pain and inflammation, then you must consult a doctor.
