Home Remedies for Leg Cramps
Do you often face the problem of extremely painful and cramping leg muscles at night? Cramps are sudden painful, involuntary spasm or contraction of the muscles leading to extreme pain and discomfort. The pain associated with cramps varies as it can be mild and also extremely painful for the person to even stand up. There are various factors which can trigger the onset of leg cramps like muscle fatigue due to over-exertion or extreme physical activity; dehydration; and even fluid imbalance in the body. To treat leg cramps the natural way, follow some given effective home remedies.
If you frequently suffer from leg cramps, then you should go in for some massage of the thigh area or calf muscles in order to ease the cramps. Massage the muscle that is opposite to the cramping muscle to attain immediate relief. Massage helps in loosening up the tensed muscles thereby helping in reducing the frequency of cramps. Applying cold packs or even hot pads on the affected muscle can also help in easing of pain associated with cramps. Similarly, stretching of the leg and the cramped muscle can also prove beneficial for treating cramps the natural way.
There are some preventive measures which can help in the prevention of cramps. Eat plenty of calcium through calcium rich food. It has been found that drinking a warm glass of milk before going to sleep can be effective for the treatment of cramps. Potassium, calcium and magnesium intake in the body is required to keep cramps away. Keep your body hydrated through adequate intake of water and fluids. Always remember to warm-up before undertaking any strenuous physical exercise so as to prevent muscles from cramping. In addition, taking hot water bath before sleeping is also an effective way of preventing the muscles from cramping.
