Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which the suffering person faces the problem of falling asleep or getting a proper night’s sleep. This is generally characterized by the inability of the person to fall asleep, inability to remain asleep or by his waking up frequently in the midst of night. If this problem persists, it is referred to as chronic insomnia which can lead to further health problems like headaches, dizziness, mental exhaustion and memory and emotional problems. It can also lead to some serious problems like asthma, kidney and heart problems amongst others. However, one need not get into the habit of taking sleeping pills as there are natural and home made remedies available which can help you to effectively get over this problem.

Natural treatments like drinking a cup of warm milk or salvia tea before going to bed can be effective in curing the problem of insomnia. Thiamine or vitamin B is considered extremely effective for the treatment of this problem. Thus, one should consume lots of wholegrain cereals, pulses and nuts to attain a healthy night’s sleep. Filling up your pillow cover with peppermint, rosemary, rose leaves and lavender can help a person to sleep throughout the night. Many people suffer from insomnia due to increased stress or tension levels. Thus, having a warm bath before going to bed can help in calming and relaxing a person thereby helping him to attain sleep. One can also relax oneself by rubbing one’s feet with aromatic body lotion.

To treat the problem of insomnia, one can make an effective drink at home by mixing 1 tsp chamomile flowers, 1 tsp hops, 1 tsp valerian root and 1 cup of boiling water.
