Home Remedies for Conjunctivitis

Also known as “pink eye”, conjunctivitis is an inflammation of conjunctiva which is the membrane which covers the entire eyeball and the inside of the eyelids. Conjunctivitis is a contagious eye infection which is characterized by red and painful eyes, itchiness, burning sensation, blurred vision and also feeling of dryness. Conjunctivitis can occur due to a number of causes like bacterial or viral infection, eyestrain and others. Given below are some effective and simple home remedies which can provide you relief from the problem of conjunctivitis.

It has been found that raw juices of vegetables like carrots and spinach can provide relief from conjunctivitis. Take them on a regular basis for maximum effect. Similarly, drinking the juice of Indian gooseberry mixed with honey can be effective. You can also make some natural eye drops to provide relief to your red and painful eyes. Soak jasmine flowers in distilled water and keep it overnight. Using these drops as eye drops can be an effective home remedy, especially to treat eyes with yellow discharge. Another effective eye wash which can be prepared at home is one made using coriander. Take a handful of dried coriander and mix it in 60 ml of water. Use it as an eye wash as it helps in providing natural relief from redness, pain and swelling associated with conjunctivitis. Eyewash made by using powdered root bark of barberry mixed in water and boiled is also beneficial. Another effective remedy which can be done at home is by preparing a poultice of grated raw but red potato or grated apple. After that, apply it on your closed infected eye for relief.

By following the given simple home remedies, you can naturally treat the problem of conjunctivitis in an efficient way.
