Home Remedies for Cholera

As water borne disease which is common in the monsoon season, cholera is one of the most severe diseases of the intestine. It is generally characterized by diarrhea accompanied with nausea and vomiting. It can also lead to overall weakness, circulatory lapse and muscle cramps. While this disease can be prevented by purifying water and eating a healthy, hygienic and a nutritious diet, it can also be treated through some natural and home made remedies.

Limejuice is one effective home remedy which can help in the killing of cholera bacilli which causes cholera. Drinking limejuice everyday can help in the prevention of cholera epidemic along with effectively helping a person to get rid of the disease. In addition, it has been found that consuming fresh juice of bitter gourd leaves can help in the treatment of cholera in its early stages. Two teaspoons of this juice, mixed with an equal quantity of white onion juice and a teaspoon of lime juice should be given daily to the affected person to bring about a desired affect. Onions are another effective home remedy for this problem. It helps in relieving symptoms of restlessness and thirstiness in a patient which is associated with cholera. To effectively use onion for treatment, one should grind about 30 grams of onions with 7 black peppers and this paste should be given to the patient at least 2 to 3 times a day. Another natural way of treating the symptom of thirstiness due to cholera is by the use of cucumber juice. A glass of fresh juice of cucumber leaves with an equal quantity of tender coconut water is an effective natural remedy for this problem as it helps in restoring the acid-base balance in dehydration.

To prevent the spread of cholera from turning into an epidemic, one should ensure certain preventive measures like proper purification of water and proper disposal of human excreta. In addition, ensuring basic hygienic living and eating conditions is a must to prevent and cure the problem of cholera.
