In simple terms, burping is a result of swallowing excess of air. Chewing gums, eating quickly, drinking carbonated beverages and even drinking through a straw can lead to the problem of burping. This common problem is usually characterized by burning sensation in the mouth or throat and even by feeling of indigestion. Given below are some natural and simple ways to prevent as well as treat the problem of burping.

Since burping is usually caused by unconscious or conscious swallowing of air, the first thing you need to do is to stop this habit. Taking few sips of water after meals can also help. If you are in a habit of taking high amounts of carbonated drinks, you should change your habit. Minimize intake of acidic drinks and instead focus on increasing intake of water. Increasing fluids is a healthy option as it not only helps in preventing and reducing burping but also aids in the overall health of a person. In addition, you should avoid intake of foods which lead to gas formation. Thus, avoid frequent consumption of foods like beans, broccoli, and cabbage. Also, eat slowly, chew your food and don’t just gulp it down. Eating 4-6 mini meals can help people with excessive problem of belching. It has been found that drinking through a straw increases burping as it leads to more swallowing of air. Thus, avoid drinking through a straw. Similarly, avoid chewing gum and also refrain from using tobacco or other unhealthy things. Stress, anxiety and tension are all contributors of the problem of burping. Thus, remain calm and learn to face life positively rather than just deteriorating your health. Follow these simple home remedies to naturally prevent and treat the problem of burping.
