Home Remedies for Blisters

October 3, 2008

You must have come across blisters very often in your life. Mostly common in hands and feet due to more friction, blisters can occur on any part of the body and the most common are those blisters which are raised and filled with liquid. There are different kinds of blisters like fever blisters, blood blisters, and friction blister. Friction blisters are the most common and are caused by doing things with bare hands, wearing new shoes, frostbite, or simply due to heat of friction. Blisters can be painful and thus you should follow the given methods to effectively prevent and treat this problem at home.

If your blister is a result of any burn, then the first thing you need to do is to soak the injured part in ice water. You can also soak a towel in a mixture salt and ice-cold water and treat the affected area with it. Sweating is another reason which can aggravate your blisters. Thus, if you are already suffering from one, then get your feet dry and soak them in a mixture of Epsom salt and warm water. Applying some drops of Listerine would also help in disinfecting the area. Garlic oil also helps in disinfecting the area. Aloe Vera gel, vitamin E oil or zinc ointment can all help to alleviate the pain associated with blisters.

Prevention is always better than cure. To prevent blisters, you can take the precautionary step of applying Vaseline or petroleum gel on your feet before wearing shoes so as to avoid friction. Always ensure wearing shoes of right fit and comfort level. Similarly, rubbing some powder, especially anti-fungal powder, also helps in the reduction of friction. Also wear gloves for daily household chores.

Following these natural preventive tips and effective home remedies can help you to effectively deal with blisters.
