Heel Pain
How often do you complain of pain and discomfort while applying pressure on your heel? Heel pain is a very common complaint often experienced by many. However, despite a plethora of treatments available for this problem, it is imperative to first recognize the underlying cause of the problem as heel pain can be caused by a number of factors. Given below are such possible reasons for heel pain and the ways to treat it.
The most common condition that leads to heel pain is that of Plantar Fasciitis. It is usually characterized by pain on the bottom of heel, pain which worsens upon arising, and pain which increases over a period of months. This is a problem which occurs due to an inflammation of the band of tissue that extends from the heel to the toe. Heel Spur is another cause related to heel pain and it is commonly associated with Plantar Fasciitis. Stress fractures can also lead to heel pain and it is more common in athletes, especially in long distance runners.
There are various treatments for the trouble of heel pain. The basic one is refraining putting any additional stress on the inflamed or painful area. During the time when you heels are paining, you should avoid running or even walking long distances. Given your heels some rest to recoup. Icing can help in reducing inflammation and can also provide relief till some extent. These are however temporary relief methods and for permanent relief, you need to first find out the cause for the problem and then take adequate treatment for the same. Some of these treatments include using simple orthotic device. For instance, an orthotic shoe insert can give the heel of the foot the added support it needs. It is only in extreme cases, when all other forms of treatments have failed, that surgery is considered as an option. Thus, first find out the root cause of your heel pain and get treated for it accordingly.
