Heart Smart Diet
Life is dependent upon heart beats. To keep your heart beating healthily for a longer time, you need to nurture it with a healthy and a heart smart diet. This article will provide dietary tips to keep your heart healthy and strong.
Our heart’s health is decided on the basis of two major parameters- blood cholesterol and blood pressure. Both these vital parameters in turn depend upon the diet of a person. Intake of unhealthy fats, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle are the major foes of a healthy heart. Read below and find out the ideal diet that can keep your heart healthy and fit.
Cut down your intake of saturated and trans-fats. These are harmful for your heart’s health as they lead to a rise in the levels of bad cholesterol in blood. This in turn leads to plaque buildup in the arteries and makes you vulnerable to heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems.
To lower the levels of bad cholesterol, you must eat food items like oatmeal which are high in soluble fiber. Similarly, omega 3 fatty acids are good for your heart and you can provide your body with this beneficial fatty acid by eating fish.
If saturated and trans-fats increase your ‘bad’ cholesterol level, then monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats lower the level of LDL. These good fats can be found in nuts and thus eating nuts can prove beneficial for your heart’s health.
To reduce saturated fats from your diet, you need to change your diet accordingly. Have skimmed and low fat milk; avoid processed foods, especially chips and cookies that are rich in trans-fats; and provide your body with important antioxidants that can be found in food items that are rich in vitamins A, B, and E.
Avoid high intake of salt and sodium as that can increase your blood pressure which in turn hampers your heart’s health.
Follow the above given tips to keep your cholesterol and blood pressure in check so that you can keep your heart in healthy condition.
