Healthy eating does not imply going on a restrictive diet to attain an unrealistic figure. On the contrary, it implies eating a balanced diet which involves a variety of food items so that one can fulfill the overall nutritional demands of the body. One generally tends to include one’s favorite food items in one’s diet which may belong to a single food group. This leads to a neglect of the nutrients which are present in the other food groups thereby leading to a nutrients imbalance in the body. Healthy eating thus requires planning and a purpose to include a variety of food items in one’s diet so that the essential requirements of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fat and fiber is fulfilled for the body.
Healthy eating is all about feeling good, healthy and fit. The nutritional demands of the body are not same for everyone as pregnant women, growing children or aging people have different nutritional demands than the others. Moreover, one’s diet also varies according to the diseases one has as people with diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol have to vary and modify their diet in comparison to their healthy counterparts.
However, one should make it a point that one includes food items from every food group so as to remain healthy. Thus, one’s diet must include fruits, vegetables, dietary products, carbohydrates, proteins and even fats for the healthy functioning of the body.
Healthy eating is not only about what you eat but also about how you eat. Eating a well balanced diet according to the requirements of the body forms one strand of healthy eating. The other strand involves the way one eats one food which all depends on eating intelligently. In the hustle and bustle of this world, one often tends to swallow one’s food in a hurry. However, one should try to chew as much as possible so as to reconnect with the joy of eating. In addition, one should avoid stress and tension during eating so as to prevent digestion related problems. Eating less and frequently is better than hogging at one go. Thus, one should follow the simple and basic fundamentals of healthy eating to achieve a healthy living.
