Healthy Drinks for Kids

March 4, 2009

Today’s kids can be seen with a glass of frizzy drinks in their hands. Such drinks are however not good for their overall health. Developing good eating and drinking habits in kids from the beginning itself helps in preventing various health problems in the later stages of life. Given are some drinks which are healthy for your child.

Replace that glass of coke with a glass of milk and see the difference. Milk is beneficial for kids of all ages as it helps in building up of strong bones. Thus, the next time your mother runs after you with a glass of milk, you should drink it as it is a good source of calcium. Along with milk, plain water is as important as a healthy drink for your kid. After all, water not only quenches your thirst, but keeps the body hydrated, fresh, healthy, detoxified, and protected from various ailments.

Do not give in to your kid’s incessant demands for frizzy drinks or those with high calorie content as that can lead to ailments like tooth decay and diarrhea. These carbonated drinks are just full of empty calorie and add no nutritional value and benefit to your child’s health. On the contrary, it only worsens it. The sweet drinks available in markets are majorly those with high sugar and calorie content and are thus also not good for your kid’s health.

Fresh juices of fruits and vegetables can be used as health drinks for kids as it helps in providing the required nutrients to the child’s body. Keep such juices low in sugar content. Eating fresh fruits in place of excessive juices is still advised. However, if you compare juices with carbonated drinks, then the former scores over the latter. Thus, milk, fresh fruit juices and water are some of the health drinks for your kids.
