June 26, 2008
Health Supplements which include minerals, vitamins and other essential nutrients are required by both men and women to lead a healthy and a disease-free life. However, women’s body have more complicated biological properties like menstruation, childbirth, menopause and others and thus their body is in more need for health supplements to remain fit and healthy. In addition to biological factors, environmental and social factors also take a toll on women’s body.
While vitamins, minerals and herbs cannot substitute the role of medicines, they play an equally important role in the overall wellness of a woman’s body. Women must take multi-vitamin formula which contains the right balance of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbal extracts, antioxidants, enzymes and neuronutrients. A quality formula should be made of natural products and not artificial one. Though there are multi vitamins available for both men and women, those designed for women specifically include in them herbal ingredients like Black Cohosh, Wild Yam extract and others which are exclusively used for the treatment of female related problems.
Women’s monthly problem occur due to menstrual cycles and supplements like primrose oil, black cohosh or raspberry leaf tea can be taken during these days to combat the problem of menstrual cramps. In addition, Pre Menstrual Syndrome can be diminished by the intake of Vitamin C or by the use of herbal remedies like dandelion root and chaste berry. Intake of iron during these days is necessary to keep one’s hemoglobin in check. In addition, during menopause with its related problems of vaginal dryness, mood swings and hot flashes, the intake of Vitamin E and C along with flavenoids can be helpful. Moreover, one should also take enough of calcium and magnesium to prevent the risk of bone related problems like osteoporosis which are more likely to happen after menopause due to the rapid loss of bone mass in a woman’s body.
The hustle and bustle of today’s world takes its toll on a person’s health as one does not take sufficient nutrients through one’s food. Hence, women should take health supplements to strengthen one’s immune system and body’s natural defenses which in turn would ensure that their body stays healthy and fit. However, if a woman is pregnant or lactating, she should consult the doctor before consuming such supplements.
