Also known as string beans, green beans are available throughout the year and are loaded with nutritional value which in turn provides numerous health benefits to a person. They are a rich source of vitamin K, C, A, calcium, potassium, manganese and iron amongst others. People of all age and gender should make it a point to include green beans in their diet as it is a storehouse of nutrients which are required to lead a healthy and a happy life.
Did you know that one serving of fresh green beans provides 25 percent of one’s vitamin K needs which is important for the maintenance of strong and healthy bones? Thus, if you want to live a healthy life which is devoid of crippling problems like arthritis and osteoporosis, you should make green beans as your favorite food. This is because vitamin K present in this healthy vegetable activates osteocalcin which is the major non-collagen protein in the bone. This in turn helps in protecting the health of bones and thus prevents a person from dangerous disorders like osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, it is a super green health food which helps in the optimum functioning of the heart as it helps in the prevention of plaque formation on the walls of the arteries. Green beans help in lowering high blood pressure along with aiding in preventing cholesterol from becoming oxidized thereby preventing the heart from various diseases.
Along with being an excellent source of Vitamin K, green beans are also rich in Vitamin A, potassium, foliate and iron. The vitamin C and beta-carotene present in green beans lower the risk of colon cancer. They also contain good levels of magnesium, thiamine, calcium, phosphorous, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and niacin. In short, green beans are a storehouse of essential nutrients which are necessary for the healthy functioning of the body. Eating them regularly can help the body becoming strong and disease proof as green peas help in the overall strengthening of the immune system thereby providing a shielding effect to the body.
