Cheese is a concentrated dairy food made from milk, be it whole, low-fat, skimmed or a combination of these. While most of us fitness freaks stay away from cheese due to fear of getting fat, these days low-fat cheese are no longer a distant dream. Moreover, there are also certain nutritional and health value getting associated with cheese and thus, its value should not get underscored. The difference between healthy and unhealthy cheese all depends upon cheese selection and right cooking. Given below are some health benefits associated with cheese and its consumption.

Cheese is rich in high quality protein and calcium and also contains some important nutrients like zinc, phosphorus, vitamin A, riboflavin and Vitamin B12. Being a good source of calcium, cheese helps in the building up of strong bones and teeth and also helps in the prevention of osteoporosis. It has also been found that certain kinds of cheese help in reducing the risk of dental problems. Health professionals are thus recommending eating of cheese immediately after meals or as a between meal snack to reduce the risk of dental caries. These kinds of cheese include Cheddar, Swiss, Blue, Monterey Jack and process American.

Usually, people avoid cheese as it is considered as fattening. However, these days you can consume cheese, savor its taste and still remain fit and healthy. This is with the help of various low and reduced fat varieties of cheese. Also, people with the problem of lactose intolerance can provide their body with important nutrients through consumption of certain varieties of cheese which contain little or no lactose.

Be careful in your selection of cheese so that you consume healthy cheese for a healthy you. For health and fitness conscious people, there is a wide range of low fat cheese to choose from.
