Regarded as a medicinal herb in the ancient times, the benefits of celery exist even today due to its high nutritional value. All the portions of celery- be it stalk, leaves or seeds-are edible and provide numerous health benefits. While Celery leaves are a good source of calcium, iron, sodium, chlorophyll and chloride, the stalk of celery is high in potassium and other minerals along with having a fair proportion of Vitamins A and B. In addition to important nutrients, celery contains some important concentrations of plant hormones and essential oils which provide it with a strong and characteristic smell. These oils help in the regulation of nervous system along with having a calming effect on the mind and body of a person.

If you are suffering from joint pains or arthritis, then celery juice can be effective for you as they help in treating arthritis, gout, rheumatism and nervous disorders. It helps in purifying blood and strengthening nerves. In addition, celery juice is a laxative which stimulates circulation along with being a healthy tonic which is useful for the overall well being of a person. It has been found that celery juice is good for kidney disorders and it also helps in increasing urination thereby helping in dropsy in which excess water gets accumulated in the body. By improving detoxification, celery can help in lowering cholesterol along with providing protection from cancer.

Celery contains phytochemical compounds known as coumarins which are helpful in cancer prevention along with aiding in the enhancement of white blood cells activity. Coumarin compounds also help in lowering blood pressure, toning vascular system and are also effective for the treatment of migraines. Celery is thus an important food item which helps in providing numerous health benefits to keep a person healthy and fit.
