Health Benefits of Barley
A type of whole grain, barley has a high nutritional content which makes it suitable for treatment and prevention of various health problems. Nutritionally, barley is rich in various important nutrients like calcium, iron, potassium, and various kinds of vitamins like vitamin A, B1, B2, B12 and folic acid amongst others. All these nutrients together with various health benefits of barley help in keeping a person healthy and fit.
Recent research has found a link between intake of barley and lowering of cholesterol. This is primarily attributed to barley being rich in fiber, both soluble and insoluble, and also containing a good amount of selenium. This in turn has found to lower the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood along with helping in stabilizing blood sugar levels. Barley thus plays a role in keeping one’s cardiovascular system in healthy working condition.
As mentioned above, barley plays an important role in reducing LDL cholesterol levels in the body. Additionally, they also help in lowering the blood pressure of a person, further enhancing their role in the healthy functioning of the heart. Being a good source of selenium, barley also helps in protecting one’s immune system and also helps in preserving the elasticity of tissues.
Along with the above given benefits, intake of barley is also linked with decreased risk of colon cancer and healthy functioning of liver. Along with the enhancing the general health of a person, barley has also extended its use for healthy maintenance of hair. We all have heard of beers being used as effective conditioners for hair. Yes, you heard it right as you can now keep your hair healthy and properly set through the use of barley beer.
