Hayley Nolan is back at her period drama best in the recently launched five part mini series “The Anonymous Jane Austen.” Hayley not only wrote the screenplay but also stars as the title character as she attempts to get her, now iconic, works published. Not many will realize that Jane was always published anonymously for fear it appearing “too aggressive and inappropriate for a lady to publish her work.” And so when Sense and Sensibility was published it was done so under the simple pseudonym of “A Lady.”
Hayley’s performance is also heart breaking as Jane loses her father before any literary success, never knowing what Jane was to become. Hayley’s fast paced screenplay takes us through all the prominent moments in Austen’s life revealing the freedom she felt at hiding behind her anonymity.
The series is shot entirely on location in the Yorkshire dales, which my sources tell me was somewhat challenging for cast and crew, but certainly makes for atmospheric viewing! This is Nolan’s second collaboration with British production company New Legends Studios, with another 2 series in the pipeline. The series is streaming now and is available to view via the New Legends Studios official Instagram page @NewLegendsStudios
