Hair Care in Winters

November 3, 2008

With the advent of winters, along with cold and coughs, one also needs to pay heed to the health of one’s hair. This is because excessive cold, dry and frequent winds can sap moisture from your hair making it weak, dry and brittle. Even if you stay indoors in a centrally heated room, that heat too can cause havoc to your hair. Thus, you need to take extra care of your hair during this season to keep it healthy. Given below are some tips which would help you in this task.

The basic step of hair care during winters is to protect your hair from the harsh cold winds by covering them up with scarf or a hat. You need to be extra careful if you have long hair as they can easily get affected and tangled by the harsh winter winds. Moreover, do not go out with wet hair as that can easily lead to frozen hair which in turn becomes susceptible to easy breakage. Instead, blow dry your hair thoroughly before moving out. Do not use cosmetic stylizing chemicals or even excess of hot dryers and curling irons as that increases the chances of your hair breakage due to excessive dryness. Always remember to use conditioner on a regular basis. Also regularly oil your hair so as to provide them with moisture. Hot oil treatments are effective conditioners that can help re-hydrate your hair from heating systems and windy conditions. You should also avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in extreme hot water as that can not only damage your hair, but also your skin by completely drying it out. Use warm water instead. Also, if you experience excessive breakage of hair, reduce your frequency of hair shampooing. It is advisable to wash hair once a week during winter season.

Follow these simple precautionary tips to keep your hair healthy in winters.
