Step into any Lush store and you are hit with an explosion of heady scents and vibrant colors. The products always look amazing and are certainly fun to play with… but do they live up to our expectations? Do they have the all important desired effect on our over chemicalised skin? Well I put their Fresh Face mask range to the test, and the results were nothing short of LUSH! 😉
I must start with my favourite of them all, the ironically named DON’T LOOK AT ME (because, frankly I wanted to take a gazillion selfies when wearing this luminous blue face mask!) Made with lemon juice and scrubby brown rice it was both a face scrub and mask that cleansed deep and dried up any pesky spots I had without drying out my skin (essential.) This never failed to calm down and eradicate any blemishes on my face and for that it received full marks! I heartily recommend! Another one to combat spots is Cosmetic Warrior. This is a strange but powerful one with garlic and tea tree, used for their natural antiseptic qualities. I’m not going to lie, it smells like cow poo, but it works a treat for problem skin. Just as powerful as the high street spot treatment products, I would say, but much more natural with no chemicals!
Another favorite product, which you can see shining bright in sugary pink in the photo above, is the Bubblegum Lip Scrub. It is made from sugar so once you’ve scrubbed a finger-full over any chapped or sry parts on your lips you can get to work licking the powerful bubblegum flavored sugar off! Although I have to say my own personal favorite taste in this range is Popcorn. After a good scrub you should then follow that up with Lush’s all natural Vegeline lip balm to lock in moisture and that is my top tip for lips, peeps!
When it comes to calming the skin down after a scrub or bout of spots or red skin, then there are two soothing options; Rosy Cheeks (with kaolin and calamine) and Catastrophe Cosmetics (with blueberries and chamomile.) I found both to have similar effects, they smeared on the skin sooooooo smoothly and left an almost powdery finish. Both smelled divine too. A proper pamper product if you want a lovely home-spa moment.
Another two products that deserve a mention are Ayesha and Cup O’ Coffee. Ayesha was a good all rounder, it says it tightens and smoothes wrinkles… and maybe over time it does but I didn’t see any results like that myself after only a few masks. (By the way you get about 5 or more masks out of each pot.) Cup O’ Coffee is a large pot that can be used as a body scrub in the shower (side note; it goes EVERYWHERE, use with caution) and as a face mask. It smells like Starbucks and leaves your skin glowing and smooth!
And last but most certainly not least because I love this product, are the Steam Tabs. Dream Steam and Tea Tree Toner Tabs. Two little 2p coin sized “bath bombs” to be ‘plopped’ into a bowl of hot water over which you carefully steam your face (trapping the steam in with a towel over your head, if you’re not too familiar with the technique.) The Dream Steam tab has soothing rose petals in and the Tea Tree tab is ideal for spotty complexions or clogged pores. The cutest thing about the Tea Tree one is that you can then bottle the water when cool and use it as a toner on your face for the rest of the week! Multi-functional, I love it!
To check all these out and more you can head over to the lush website www.Lush.co.uk (or .com depending where you are) or better still, pop into your local store and spend several hours perusing the amazing shelves as I often find myself doing!
