July 31, 2008

One is bound to face the problem of upset stomach sometime or the other in one’s life due to unhealthy eating, poor digestion and also due to stress and emotional upheavals. However, knowing about some natural treatments is always an added advantage as it helps in alleviating the problem as soon as possible. Most importantly, the problem of upset stomach can be treated with the simple use of Ginger which is a common herb found in almost all households. Long been used in cooking due to its aromatic smell and pungent taste, ginger is a herb root which has medicinal value also and it is particularly helpful for the treatment of stomach related disorders.

The common ginger root has been found to alleviate nausea, indigestion and motion sickness. This is because of the active ingredient gingerol which is present in ginger and which helps in treating stomach disorders by working with the gastrointestinal tract without any side effects of toxicity. Hence, drinking strong ginger ale or tea or chewing a piece of candied ginger can be extremely useful in providing relief from all digestion related disorders, especially nausea. It also helps in reducing vomiting and cold sweating.

Ginger can be used to reduce and prevent nausea which is caused during pregnancy or traveling. Since ages, ginger has been known for its ability to calm an upset stomach and improve the flow of bile which in turn can aid in the reduction of stomach pain and cramps. In addition, mixing grated ginger with diluted lime juice can help to soothe the digestive tract along with providing relief from acidity related stomach pain. Since ginger is a strong herb, one should exercise some precaution before using it and one should not consume more than required. Moreover, pregnant women and people with serious illnesses should consult a doctor before indulging in the use of ginger.
