Fun Activities for Preschoolers
April 22, 2009
Preschoolers or toddlers are children aged one to 3 years. They are ambulatory (able to walk), extremely active and prone to being adventurous. They tend to try different activities like climbing stairs when no one is watching, putting their fingers into power sockets, or breaking your precious china. This is a natural occurrence as they are trying to get familiar with the world around them. It is extremely important that you engage them in safer activities. Below is a list of things you can do to keep your little bundle of energy busy and safe.
Fun Toddler Activities
Find the nearest park
The park is fun for young children. There are wide open spaces where he can run without being stopped; he is close to nature, and there are many things to see. Moreover, there are children to play with. As the child learns to play with other children, it serves as his first lesson in social behavior and team play. Regular visits to the park also bring him close to nature and allow him to breathe the fresh, clean air.
Learn a new language
Children of this age learn new skills very quickly. This is the ideal time to develop linguistic abilities. Getting the child a talking book in a popular language can be fun. For families where English is not the native language, this can be a useful way to practice English. Television channels in English such as Cartoon Network or Disney can familiarize the child with the language.
A soothing walk
A slow walk with your toddler will strengthen their limbs and also use up some of their excess energy. Children love to be outdoors, and walking to the mall or around the block you live in is an activity the child looks forward to. Walk slowly because the child has small limbs and cannot match adult strides.
Ballgames
Simple games like bouncing a ball or throwing and catching it are a wonderful activity to develop the coordination of the child. It is also fun for him. Children love to play with adults and he will look forward to such an activity.
Crafts
There are many crafts that are designed for toddlers, including coloring books, and cut and paste books. A search of the internet will give you many ideas. Children can spend hours doing such activities. They learn a lot and have fun with crafts.
