Food for the mood

July 11, 2008

Ever wish if there was any happy pill which can pep up your spirits when you feeling blue or out of mood? Well, your kitchen has stuff that can really help you out. So don’t wait and look into that for getting chilled and liveliness in yourself.

Deserts
It is a well known fact that sugar soothes you up when you feeling stressed out. But be certain you eat this in proper amount. Little sugar can soothe your rattled nerves, but make sure that you do not over do that as too much can re-rattle those causing havocs with your blood sugar levels.

Go for carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are known to increase the serotonin levels, a feel good brain chemical that lifts our spirits when we are feeling down. So, whenever you feel blue, go for some carbs like bread toast with jam. You can also feed yourself with whole wheat bread and other whole grain carbs as this helps in stabilizing the blood sugar level of your body. So, what’s stopping you now? Go grab a bowl of sandwich or oatmeal for a happy serotonin boost up.

DHA rich diet
It has been proved that intake of omega-3 fatty acid called DHA rich diet can boost up your mood and brainpower. Even people suffering from depression feel much relieved and better, when they feed themselves with DHA rich diet. So, aim for 200 mg of DHA everyday to keep your spirits in high level. You can opt for yoghurt, eggs etc.

Spinach
Spinach is a high energy food. It changes your mood in minutes, as it is rich in folate, vitamin B that makes the serotonin in your body. Just like DHA, folate in spinach helps in easing you from depression. So, make sure you eat good amount of spinach to keep the mood swings at bay.
