Finding the best way to study? Read this!

September 8, 2008

Certainly no two people study in the same way and what works for one may not work for the other. However go through this best way of studying that can work for anyone. Just read out!

Remember that active involvement in reading the text is very important for comprehending the material. Follow a technique that can help you to increase your grasping power dramatically. First of all, briefly survey the chapter you want to study, noting the headings, sub-headings, captions, graphs and maps, tables, figures etc. then go through a chapter summary for getting the idea of a chapter. Plus this will provide you an overview of chapter content. Then turn each section heading into a question that you want to answer. Also, try to guess few questions that might appear on the exam from the text you have read out so far. Read the chapter section by section, answering the questions that might appear. Make sure to read the chapter with full understanding and note all the underlined, italicized, bold printed words. You can read at your own pace. There’s no hurry. Reduce your speed for difficult passages, if needed. When one section gets over, orally ask questions relating to the same. Answer the questions by stating the main points verbally. You can also write down the main points and answers for later reference. Afterwards check through chapter that whether you have included all the points or not. Reflect on the meaning and application of major points. Refine your mental organization and begin building memory. You can review in your spare times like between your classes, time when you are waiting for your friends. Remember that engaging yourself in short periods of intensive concentration can be an effective study tool. After few days, you can even test yourself on whatever you have learnt. It will help you to recollect whatever you have studied. If you do not test yourself you may remain under a false impression that you know everything, while the truth remains something else.
