Fabric Softeners

August 22, 2008

Every person wants to look good in the clothes they wear and along with looking stylish and graceful, one also needs to ensure the comfort level of the dress they wear. Dresses and clothing reflect the overall personality of a person and one needs to wear proper and comfortable clothes to be able to carry oneself with grace and confidence. Many fabrics are hard and stiff in nature that leads to difficulty in the wearing of them. It is in this context that fabric softeners come extremely handy as they help in making the fabric feel softer along with reducing static cling and making them easy and comfortable for wearing. In addition, adding fabric softeners to the laundry also help in reducing wrinkles in clothes thereby saving the time of ironing.

There are many kinds of fabric softeners available in the market. They also come in sheets to be placed in the dryer. However, the useful fabric softeners can also be made at home through some simple, hygienic and effective methods. A simple way of making fabric softener is by mixing 1 cup of glycerin and 1 gallon of water. ½ cup of this mixture should be added to the wash or rinse cycle to soften clothing. Similarly vinegar is a natural fabric softener and it can be used for baby’s cloth diapers. Another way of preparing fabric softener at home is by mixing 2 cups of baking soda, 2 cups of white vinegar and 4 cups of water and one should store this mixture in a plastic or a glass container. Whenever one needs to use it, one should shake well and add ¼ cup to the final rinse in the washing machine.

By using natural and home made fabric softeners, one can easily save money along with preparing a product which is extremely useful in every household. Moreover, this also helps in removing the possibility of allergies which might occur to some sensitive people due to presence of some ingredients in market made fabric softeners.
