Eye Care for Computer Users

April 24, 2009

eyecareThe majority of people work on computers and spending long hours in front of computers is not healthy and safe for your eyes. It is due to this reason that the number of people with spectacles are increasing every day.

Not only adults, but even small children are seen with thick spectacles, and the major reason for this is the long hours they spend playing games, working, or watching stuff on computer. Given below are some tips that can help you out.

First of all, as the popular proverb says ‘Prevention is better than cure’, it is usually advisable to prevent spending long hours in front of the computer, unless of course it’s unavoidable. But with a majority of jobs being computer based, it is imperative to take some essential eye care tips.

Always remember never to keep your eyes glued to the computer screen for a long time. Take frequent breaks and give your eyes some rest. Also, you should look here and there instead of gluing your eyes in one particular direction.

Blink your eyes several times. After all, taking ‘visual breaks’ as it is popularly called is a must not only for keeping your eyes healthy but it also helps in improving focus.

You can also undertake the healthy habit of taking a walk outside your office to grasp some fresh air along with providing your eyes with visual breaks.

There are certain eye exercises which should be followed by all people who sit in front of computers. Moving your eyes in clockwise and anticlockwise direction is one such exercise.

Washing your eyes with cold water is also helpful as it helps in refreshing your tired eyes. Additionally, applying a slice of cucumber to your tired eyes helps in refreshing them.

Thus, follow the above given eye care tips to keep your eyes healthy and safe, especially if you are a computer user.
