Are you fascinated with the dramatic effect of 60’s makeup? Do you want to try it yourself? Here are a few simple tips which will help you to recreate the 60’s mood with the magic touch of makeup. 60’s makeup is marked by the flawless natural look and big hair style. The main focus was on eyes. Spiked lashes with tons of mascara and dark coloured eye shadows helped a lot to bring the dramatic effects to eye makeup. ‘Translucent’ powder or foundation was used to create a pale look of skin. Lips were usually pale and sometimes glittering but uses of dark shades on lips were rare. Now follow these simple steps to do 60’s makeup.
First of all clean your face and apply some moisturizer if your skin is dry. Your face should have a very natural look. Use foundation, concealer and powder to get that flawless, natural yet minimalistic look..
Choose a light and thin foundation. You may use liquid foundation to make the base. Use a wet sponge or even your finger tips to apply foundation on your face. Blend it evenly with outward strokes. Give especial attention to hairline, jaw, eyebrow and ears.
Use concealer on the parts of your face that you want to shadow or hide. Gently blend it to get an even coverage. Use a sponge or your finger tips to blend the concealer. You can apply a light reflecting concealer under your eyes but blend it properly to get an even skin tone.
Now, use a large makeup brush and apply translucent powder of matching shade. It will give a perfectly matt effect to your face.
You can do a lot of experiments with eye makeup here. You can use dark eye shadows and heavy mascara.
First apply a nude or neutral colour eye shadow on your eye lid. Spread it on the whole eye area across the eyebrow and tap off the excess powder. Now take any dark colour like gray, black or brown and spread it over the eye lid. You may also use the bold colours like blue, green or gold.
You can use liquid or pencil eyeliner according to your choice. The most preferable shades are black and brown. Draw a thick (not very thick) line across the upper eyelash line. Eyeliner plays a key role in 60’s makeup. At the corners move the liner slightly up so that it will flick up at the ends.
Now, you can choose to use false eyelashes. Place the false eyelashes close to your upper lash line and press with your finger tips. If you don’t want to use false eyelashes then use a few coats of thick mascara on upper and bottom lashes.
Your lips need to look pale. Apply some concealer on your lips to make them look pale. Now, apply a pale lip colour. You may choose pale pink or peach or may apply only lip gloss. You are ready with your 60’s retro look. Go out and rock the world.
