Drink Cocoa for Healthy Heart
You heard it right. Drinking cocoa can play an important role in keeping your heart healthy as it helps in lowering the levels of bad cholesterol in the body. Moreover, according to research, along with lowering bad cholesterol, cocoa also helps in boosting the levels of HDL in the body thereby boosting up the health of your heart and your entire body. Moreover, studies suggest that cocoa can be linked with lower blood pressure and it can actually help blood vessels to function better.
The health benefits associated with cocoa are due to antioxidants present in them. They are excellent source of catechins which are polyphenols of the flavanol group and which protect the body against heart disease, cancer and various other medical conditions. Hot cocoa also has more disease-fighting antioxidants than tea or red wine. However, all these benefits are associated with consuming pure cocoa, not processed chocolate. According to research, the best results were found when cocoa beans were brought, roasted, cracked and ground. Moreover, diabetic patients for whom chocolate was a big no can now get benefited through intake of cocoa. This has been medically proved as according to new research published in the June 3 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), after diabetic patients drank specially formulated high-flavanol cocoa for one month, blood vessel function went from severely impaired to normal.
Though there are still studies going around about the healthy benefits of dark chocolates, the latter still contains large amounts of saturated fats. In contrast, a cup of hot cocoa is any day better as it has a much lower level of saturated fats than a bar of chocolate. Thus, drink cocoa wisely for a healthy heart and the overall well being of the body.
