Drawbacks of Internet
Today’s modernized world is dominated by technology. Internet today has become one of the most important elements of one’s life. Today, even a small child has his profile in facebook and orkut and is connected with the social world. But how good is internet for you is a question one needs to think about.
Like the two sides of a coin, internet has its set of pros and cons too. While there is no denying the fact that internet today has made the world a smaller and a connected space to live in, it also brought with it many drawbacks. Children are getting addicted to it and are sacrificing studies. Similarly, growing incidents of cyber crime and asocial web activities bring to light the dark side of internet.
More and more children today are using internet services. Internet provides a medium through which children can get access to a wide range of information.
However, how much of information and knowledge should a child have access to is a question that needs to be answered. Growing cases of children accessing pornographic sites highlight the need for having parental vigilance over children’s viewing of web sites.
Most children today are seen playing internet games and have sacrificed physical activity and exercise in the process. The result is growing number of obese children and increasing health problems.
In addition to the above given drawbacks, internet also leads to increasing cyber crimes and amoral and asocial activities.
Internet has also led to a rise in online dating. While this concept of online dating has its set of advantages too, one cannot neglect the dark side of such new concepts as such kind of online dating also increases the chances of fraud.
Thus, one should carefully weigh the benefits and drawbacks of internet and use technology in such a way that one leverages its positive points only.
