Different varieties of nut—read them!

Chestnuts
They are the healthy nuts of European origin that are low on fats, calories and cholesterol. Chestnuts are slightly sweet and can be eaten plain, boiled and roasted. They can be candied. Apart from confectionery uses, chestnuts can be added to breads, pasta flour etc.

Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts are rich in vitamin E, and are recommended to heart patients suffering from heart-vein diseases and cancer. These nuts combine ell with chocolate based cakes, pralines, vodka based liquors and coffee. Hazelnut oil is also used as a salad dressing. But if you are calories conscious, make sure to avoid these types of nuts as they contain more than 60 percent fat.

Brazilian nuts
As the name suggests, these nuts hail from Brazil and have a very string earthy taste. This makes them very popular with recipes that call for a very distinct nutty flavor. The flavors of Brazilian nuts deepen when combined with chocolate. These nuts are excellent source of proteins and fiber, but are packed with calories. Brazilian nuts are often substituted for hazelnuts in cakes and chocolates when latter are not available. These nuts can be eaten on their own as well.

Pecan nuts
Pecan nuts belong to North America basically. They look like walnuts and have rich buttery flavor with not much calories. They are good source of proteins and vitamin E. These nuts taste best when blended with pies, tarts, pralines and even with plain whipped cream.

Macadamia nuts
Macadamia nuts come from Australia and have sweet and nutty aroma. These nuts are recommended specially for those suffering from skin and heart ailments as it is a rich source of mono-saturated fats. It is typically used in chocolate cake and chocolates preparation. At times, they are also used in making cookies.
