Different types of ovarian cysts, just read it out!

Ovarian cyst is a collection of a fluid in form of water, blood or a thick mucunous like material inside your ovary. There exits different types of cysts like simple cyst or endometriotic cyst or dermoid cyst etc. just read below, to know more about them!

Simple cyst:
In simple cyst, a collection of clear water-like fluid fills up inside the ovary. It varies in size from small to very large and usually it causes no major symptoms except for occasional menstrual irregularity.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS):
In polycystic ovarian syndrome, multiple tiny cysts get formed in an ovary. Cysts being small in their sizes lead to hormonal disturbances in one’s body.

Endometriotic cyst:
In endometriotic cyst, a thick dark chocolate like fluid fills up inside the ovary. Every time when the patient menstruates, it causes bleeding inside the cyst, thus leading to severe pain before the periods. It keeps on increasing with time and may even recur after a surgery.

Dermoid cyst:
In dermoid cyst, a thick “material” containing hair, teeth or bone pieces is present inside an ovary. If this materials leaks out inside the pelvis, it cause tremendous pain and adhesions.

Serous and mucinous cystadenoma cyst:
In this type of cyst, there exit a collection of watery liquid which can become cancerous. In extreme cases, it can grow very big and heavy and can even weigh like several stones.

Do you know how age factor affects the presence of cysts in the ovary? PCOS is mainly found in young girls after 15 years of their age. Simple cysts can occur in women at any point of their age. Dermoid and endometriotic cysts can be seen in young women in their 20’s and 30’s, while other cysts can occur at any age.
