Diet for a Healthy Digestive System

February 26, 2009

We all know the importance of a healthy diet for a healthy mind and body. Let’s now look at the specific diet which can help keep your stomach and digestive system in good health. After all, diet plays an important role in deciding the health of your stomach.

Many people suffer from weak digestive system which keeps on leading to frequent outbreaks of stomach infections and ailments. Instead of making your life dependent on medicines which can harm your digestive system over a long run, try out some natural methods which include dietary changes for a healthy digestive system.

First of all, to possess a healthy digestive system, improve your dietary habits. Do not consume much fried, fatty, oily and processed food. Also cut down on intake of excessive sugar. Instead, get adequate amount of fruits, vegetables, and fiber through your diet.

Apples, bananas, grapes, peaches, prunes, and watermelon are some healthy fruits for the digestive system. Similarly, vegetables like beans, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and potatoes amongst others are healthy. You need to provide your body with high fiber foods like oats, legumes, and barley in addition to fruits and vegetables.

People who suffer from problems of constipation should include red beets and beet greens in their diet. This is because beets contain important nutrients like potassium, magnesium, iron and calcium which are necessary for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

Avocados are extremely rich in fiber and thus are advised for a healthy digestive system. Additionally, they are easy to digest and contain nutrients beneficial for the stomach. Similarly, cod liver oil and oats get special mentioning when one thinks about foods good for the digestive system.

Follow the above given diet to naturally strengthen your digestive system so as to prevent various digestion and stomach related ailments.
